I first became interested in Podiatric Medicine while working in Intensive Care as a registered nurse. I saw how foot pathology could affect the whole body and slow down rehabilitation. I could see how not being able to walk pain free due to foot pathology could lead to other health problems like weight gain, muscle weakness or knee back or hip injury. This in turn can affect our mental health and over all health. I became interested in the concept of balance and movement and how the feet and lower limbs consist of a complicated system of movement and function that can be interrupted through injury.
I graduated with Distinction from the University of Newcastle obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Health Science (Podiatry) in 2012. Following this I gained entry into a very competitive program of post graduate training in Newcastle at Hunter New England Health Services where I undertook work and further training in High Risk Diabetic Foot Clinics, Surgical clinics, Foot Pain Clinics and General Podiatry Services. I then moved from Public Podiatry services to the Private sector working in Umina Podiatry where I was further mentored by a very experienced podiatry team. In 2014 I moved to the Bega Valley and began my own Podiatry clinics first in Merimbula and soon after in Bega and Eden.
I have been working in the Health industry for over 20 years. I’m not only a Podiatrist but also a Registered Nurse with extensive postgraduate training and experience in intensive care and coronary care. I have lived and worked in London, Newcastle, Sydney and Gosford. I utilize my experience and knowledge to provide a holistic approach to podiatry and health care in general.
I have particular interests in biomechanics (which is the study of human movement) and how this relates to injury and pain in the lower limb. I have experience working with children and adults and use exercise programs and foot orthotic therapies to treat injuries. I firmly believe in what’s known as the “Tissue Stress” theory of injury and believe treatment plans need to be focus on this and not out dated models of podiatry care.
I was born in the Bega Valley and when my wife and I had children we decided to move here so we could raise our family in the peace and natural beauty that the Sapphire Coast has in abundance.
My goal is to provide a caring and patient centred Podiatry service.
